Master of Science in Mathematics, Montana State University - Bozeman
5+ years of experience in teaching and tutoring college and high school math
I have always loved math -- not just solving problems, but getting curious about why things work the way they do. As an exchange student during college, I studied mathematical physics and modern geometry at the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse, which led me to graduate school in Montana. Living in the beautiful mountains, studying something I cared about, felt like a dream come true!
During grad school, I taught a range of courses including algebra, pre-calc, and calculus. That is when I realized how much I enjoy working one-on-one with students. Guiding a student to the point where they feel confident working through the problem independently is one of the best parts of what I do.
My approach to tutoring is relaxed, supportive, and focused on real understanding. I want students to feel like they can ask questions, try things out, and not worry about getting everything right on the first try. I believe math doesn’t have to be daunting and can actually be a fun and creative endeavor.
Outside of teaching, I love reading, painting, and baking (banana bread is one of my favorites!). I like to travel, experience new cultures and make friends around the world, and run a small travel agency to that end. I also enjoy swimming and hanging out with cats whenever I get the chance.
"Zoya was very engaging with the class and made us think critically before directly answering our questions. Personally this helped me understand the material a lot better than if she answered all of our questions right of the bat."
"I really enjoyed the way you taught this class and it helped me understand calculus on a deeper level than when I had previously learned about it."
"I really enjoyed having Zoya as a teacher. I feel like she did a really good job teaching the material and it was easy to learn from her."
"I felt that she cared about our learning and wanted us all to understand the content available."
"Made me like math again"
"When I needed help you were great and definitely made me improve"
"Zoya is incredibly knowledgeable. She is excellent at answering questions without providing the answer, which is an admirable skill in an instructor. She was also receptive to issues in the class and responsive to emails."
"Zoya helped explain everything and helped me learn from my own common math mistakes. She guided me well when I was struggling to start answering a question by asking me questions about what I knew and explained how I could implement my knowledge and the given information in the question to answer mathematical problems. This teaching style gave me more confidence in answering similar problems independently and in exams with some extra practice."
"I found you to be a very good lecturer for this class. Explaining concepts intuitively before laying out the math was helped a lot for me to gain a deep understanding of the material."

I truly value the time and effort that both students and families put into tutoring. To make sure our sessions are as productive as possible, I’ve outlined a few simple policies. These help set clear expectations and ensure we can work together smoothly.
I offer a free consultation for parents and students. This is a chance for us to meet, discuss goals, and decide if we’re a good fit before committing to regular sessions.
Students should bring all necessary tools (such as pen, calculator etc.) and materials, including any relevant resources provided by their teacher or school.
It’s very helpful when students share syllabi, homework problems, or other resources in advance so I can plan ahead and make the most of our time together.
Respect and professionalism are expected at all times from both students and parents/guardians.
I cannot guarantee specific grades or outcomes. Tutoring is about building skills, strategies, and confidence over time.
Tutoring sessions are meant to guide students through their learning process, not to complete assignments for them.
Referrals are always appreciated! Families who refer a new student receive a referral discount towards their future sessions as a thank-you.
If you’d like to bring a friend to share the session, please let me know in advance.
Shared sessions are billed at 1.5× the regular rate.
24-Hour Cancellation Policy: Sessions may be canceled up to 24 hours in advance at no charge.
Late Cancellations: If canceled within 24 hours, 50% of the session fee will be charged.
No-Shows: Missed sessions without notice will be charged in full.
Exceptions: Family emergencies or sudden illness may be excused on a case-by-case basis.
If you will be late, please contact me via call, text, or email.
If the student is on their way, I’ll wait, but the session will still end at the scheduled time.
If I don’t hear from you within 15 minutes of the start time, I’m free to leave and the session will be charged in full.
Payment is due by the end of each session unless another arrangement has been made.
I offer discounted rates when multiple tutoring sessions are booked in advance.
These policies are in place to keep sessions structured, respectful, and effective. Thank you for your understanding, and I look forward to supporting your learning journey!
